Elections Can Be Fun

Those of you who know me well know that I am not all that political. My support can move from one party to the next depending on who I see as best for this area and best for the country this time around. I also love to see how other people in different parts of the country think. So watching an election is very exicting for me because I feel connected to the whole country in this common act and I get to witness the new make up of a government and speculate with those around me about how it will govern.

This time Mary and I got to vote out here in B.C. which added different levels of interesting to the election because there was the outside chance that the Green Party might get a seat and because there was a radio and television BAN on all election results from the rest of the country until our own polls closed. In the end what I and most of the country expected to happen did happen and the Conservatives got a minority government. This is exciting for me not because I voted that way, I actually voted green, but because it is change and somehow change is always exciting.

With all of that said Mary and I were coming up with fun future scenarios for the government. With Prime Minister Martin stepping down and a liberal leadership race on the horizon we were able to have some fun. Picture this Belinda Stronach as leader of the liberals (this was hinted at last night) and Peter MacKay as leader of the Conservatives. It would be a few years before the latter happens, but can you imagine the tension in the house? Mary and I thought that Meg would especially find that scenario interesting.

Well that is about it for now. Everyone have a great day and I will get back to avoiding cleaning by playing CIV 3. (someday CIV 4 hopefully).

A New Post!

Hey everyone my computer is fixed! What happened to the old computer? Good question. Forensic evidence points towards an infiltration of the computer power supply by a spider looking for a home for her young. The adult perpetrator was not located but many of the fried crispy young were located among the shorted circuits of my power supply. It seems that one night when the computer was off an industrious spider crawled into the back of it through the power supply fan ducts. She then laid an egg nest and presumably left unharmed. The young spiders when they eventually hatched crawled throughout the power supply shorting out circuits and causing general mayhem. This resulted in the computer having some power issues and yet it kept on working.

The fact that the computer continued to work allowed me to live in gleeful bliss. I was aware that the power supply fan did not sound quite right and I downloaded a program to monitor the temperature of the computer. The program showed no hot spots over the course of a week so I assumed that everything was alright and that the fan was just getting old. What I was unaware of was that the problem was not just a weird sounding fan but extended to shorted out capacitors and other various components in the power supply. this eventually over taxed the system and then one day while playing Civ 3 the computer shut off. It then tried to restart got to the loading screen and shut off again. This alarmed me which lead to me taking the computer apart.

When I took the device apart that is when I finally found what had happened. When then forward our story to the middle to December when I first played with the idea of a new computer instead of just a new power supply. Unfortunately due to details I won't go into the purchase was thwarted and I was led to thinking about fixing the computer again. This January though I priced out the cost of actually fixing the computer and getting it up to a decent computing level. That led to the beautiful conclusion that it would be cheaper to buy new and transfer old components to the new machine.

So I ordered a beautiful (quite literally it is a very nice looking machine) computer from futureshop for 400 with taxes and I now am back and Maryanne is thankful that I am no longer bugging her constantly to use hers to read all of my science stuff. I do still have plans on changing this blog but that will come with time.
